Soompler and Stooms — sampler and stem-separation plugins for your Mac, built with care for the joy of noodling.

Chop it where it lives.

Soompler opens inside the track in your DAW. Slice the sample, split its stems, play it as keys and print the idea back — without exporting a single file.

Fewer steps.
More noodling.

The usual way

  1. Export the clip
  2. Open a sampler
  3. Drag the file in
  4. Find the tempo
  5. Chop it
  6. Split stems somewhere else
  7. Render
  8. Drag it back and line it up

8 steps, and the idea has cooled down.

With Soompler

  1. Select a range on the track
  2. Chop to pads
  3. Play
  4. It’s already in your song

4 steps. The original keeps playing outside the range.

A tour of Soompler

  1. 01

    One window. The whole idea.

Source, slices, pads, sound shaping and takes — together on one screen, sized for the editor window in your DAW.

  2. 02

    Chop on the hits.

Transient slicing finds the attacks for you. Beat-grid chopping follows the detected tempo. Every slice point stays editable.

  3. 03

    See every stem.

Drums, bass, vocals and other, in their own lanes. Mute, solo, and choose which stems each pad plays.

  4. 04

    Pads that show their sound.

Sixteen raised pads with real mini-waveforms and stem bars. Play them from your controller, your host’s MIDI or the mouse.

  5. 05

    Any pad becomes an instrument.

Keys detects the root note — even in quiet, decaying or bass-heavy sounds — so the keyboard is in tune from the first press. Mono or chords.

  6. 06

    Every pass, recorded.

In your DAW, Soompler records as you play — each pass of the DAW cycle, or from the cursor to the end of the clip, up to 1,024 beats. No record button. Keep the best take, then drag it out as MIDI or audio.

  7. 07

    Key and tempo, already found.

Soompler detects key, tempo and beat grid in the background. Fast mode plays instantly; HQ renders the best stretch when it matters.

Out of the plugin.
Into your song.

Printing back on the clip through ARA 2 is one way. The quick way: drag a single pad, or a whole take, straight onto a track. Soompler renders it in the background with its stems, loop, pitch and envelope baked in.

Try it. These are Soompler’s real buttons. Switch Pad 10’s stems or Loop, then drag Audio, the pad itself, or the take’s MIDI / Audio into the arrangement.

Soompler’s lower half: pads 9 to 16, the Pad 10 toolbar with stems, Loop and Audio, and the take panel with MIDI and Audio export.

On your clip with ARA 2, and in the standalone app, every take keeps the exact sounds it was recorded with, so it always replays the same — even after you re-chop. Open it in the pattern editor to move notes, quantize, or switch to a piano roll for melodies and chords.

Why not Logic yet? Logic only loads Audio Units, and on Apple Silicon it runs ARA plug-ins only under Rosetta. Our plugins are native Apple Silicon VST3s, so Logic needs both an Audio Unit version and an Intel build of our engine. More on Logic. Until then, try the free trial in your own setup first.

Every feature, free for 14 days. If you don’t buy, your projects still open, save and reload — sources, pads and takes included.

Early Access is available now. You pay less because it is early: Apple Silicon only, and Logic Pro support is still to come. Every 1.x update is included. We will announce the end at least 7 days ahead.

How do I buy and download?

Buy here securely through Moonbase, then find your licence and downloads under My plugins, using the email you checked out with.

Do I need both?

Soompler can split stems per pad; Stooms is the quick utility for a whole clip. Choose Soompler for sampling and building ideas, Stooms for focused stem separation, or the bundle if you want both workflows.

How good is the MIDI from Stooms?

Each stem gets the tool that suits it. Drums become a General MIDI kit — kick, snare and hi-hats are the strongest; toms and cymbals are rougher. Bass and vocals follow one melody line each: choose Notes for clean notes, or Expressive to keep slides and vibrato as pitch bend (set your synth’s bend range to ±12 semitones if it doesn’t pick that up). Other — keys, guitars, pads — is experimental: a starting point to edit, not a finished part. In your DAW, the files follow your project’s tempo. It all runs on your Mac.

How does the free trial work?

Download the installer from our downloads page — no account is needed to download. Choose Activate inside the plugin, then sign in or create your account to start 14 days with every feature.

Does my audio go anywhere?

No. Stem separation and analysis run on your Mac. Activation talks to the licence server; your audio and projects never do.

What happens when the trial ends?

Playback and exports pause until you activate. Your projects stay editable, savable and reloadable, with sources, pads and takes kept.

Can I activate without internet?

Yes, with a request/response file. Online activations keep working for 30 days between check-ins.

Do Soompler and Stooms support ARA 2?

Yes. Both are ARA 2 extensions: in any VST3 host with ARA 2 support, you open them right on an audio clip in your arrangement — no exporting, no importing. More about Soompler · More about Stooms.

Which DAWs work?

Any VST3 host with ARA 2 support gets the on-the-clip workflow for both plugins. In VST3 hosts without ARA, Soompler runs as a VST3 instrument and Stooms as a file-mode VST3. Both also run as standalone apps. Logic Pro isn’t supported yet — here’s why. See where each plugin works.

Why isn’t Logic Pro supported yet?

Two reasons. First, Logic only loads Audio Units, and our plugins are VST3s today, so we’re building Audio Unit versions.

Second, on Apple Silicon Macs, Logic runs ARA plug-ins only under Rosetta, which loads the Intel version of a plugin. Our stem separation and analysis are built and tuned for Apple Silicon, so the in-track workflow in Logic needs an Intel build of that engine as well. We’d rather do it properly than ship something slow. Logic support is coming, but it isn’t here yet.

What is ARA 2, and why did you build around it?

ARA 2 (Audio Random Access) lets a plugin see the whole audio clip in your arrangement, not just the sound passing through it as it plays. That’s why Soompler and Stooms work right on the clip: no exporting, no importing, no lining things back up afterwards.

ARA was our first idea, not an add-on. We kept losing ideas in the export, chop, render and drag-back loop. Working on the clip itself changed how we make music, and we want you to feel that too. No ARA host? Both plugins still work as VST3s and standalone apps.

Do I need ARA 2?

No. Both plugins also work in any VST3 host and as standalone apps. ARA 2 adds the on-the-clip workflow in hosts that support it.

What Mac do I need?

An Apple Silicon Mac. Windows is planned for later.
